“New Hijab” Styles that Aren’t Hijab!
I came across this video and laughed my head off, as it touches upon a pretty important topic whilst keeping light-hearted. It reflects my views on the “new hijab” which I have been talking about for over a year now. In this video the presenter talks about the different styles of “new hijab” which are not actually the correct Islamic hijab.
This is not looking down on people who do not wear the hijab properly. It is just showing that there is a correct way for us to work towards.

I, too, laughed, but the point is serious, and he is correct. I don’t think the women who wear the examples of “not hijab” believe that it doesn’t matter, or that they are wearing it correctly or for the right reasons.
Rather, it seems that any woman who wears any kind of hijab knows how to do it, and knows why she wears it in the particular style she wears it. It’s time some of us women stood up and admitted that we don’t really believe we have to wear hijab in the correct way. Some of us believe we don’t have to wear it at all, except in places wear other people expect us to wear it.
Those who feel this way should have the courage to admit it.
Now, the reasons behind any woman’s attitude fill entire volumes, and are not of concern here. Though I do not wear hijab, I am bothered by women who wear it incorrectly and PRETEND that they are wearing it correctly.
If you show your bangs, ears, hair clips, etc., at least admit that you are wearing hijab for reasons other than Allah, subhanna wa taalla.

Thanks Shahi and Muslim kid!
Marahm, I feel the same way with your statement: “I am bothered by women who wear it incorrectly and PRETEND that they are wearing it correctly.” It degrades the purpose of the hijab.May Allah guide us all

Sorry, have to disagree here.
Typical tug-of-war between people who think hijab should be a rice sack on your hair and others who wear hijab yet don’t look ugly.
While there can be something said for muhajja-babes, this video, and some of your posts, have a “preachy” attitude as well as “I am better than thou as I wear the hijab ‘properly’ ”
where “properly” is defined as Arab/traditional. Hijabs evolve (for example African/Indian) and hijabis too.
“Allah is beautiful and Loves beauty” while that is not a license to dress like a Paris model, it doesn’t mean one should put on a hijab in the most unsmart and ugly looking manner.

Thanks Amekami!
You don’t have to be sorry Mezba! We have an opinion we are sharing and you have an opinion that you are sharing, that’s the whole point of a discussion, which is great! I would be mortified if I really were speaking in such a preachy manner and that is not intended at all!
Of course you should look nice sis, I don’t think I mentioned anything about looking ugly/neglecting yourself! The posts I wrote are about the over-the-top “Paris Model” style which has caused confusion regarding the meaning of the hijab (to be modest and not cause major attraction)
Anyway, thanks for the comment!

Although I tend to think hijab is very personal, and the way people choose to wear it (or not wear it, for that matter) is their own private business, I liked it! Humorous way to tackle a serious topic. It’s a fine line between looking good, and incorrect dressing.
So, like a friend of mine says: “better check yourself before you wreck yourself… cause burning in hell is bad for your health!”
Btw, does he remind anyone else of Bill Nye the Science Guy? In a good way =)

Seriously, the same goes for guys. I used to live in an apartment with my college mates, 90% of the guys wear the “short shorts”.
Thanks for posting the video of Baba Ali. Its always nice to hear his same reminders more than once.

Asslam Alikoum Brothers i have a diffirent point of veiw in that kind of videos , First of all since when islam mocks up inproper attempts of hijjab maybe the sister who wears hijjab are in a very need of advise of course not from that funny guy who is very happy with his capabilities as a comedian actor, and he got alot of gadgets a moving office seat and a camera crew WOW!! God SAve US from those who manipulate islam to gain some score for their side.
Ps : unique i respect your posts , your posts are very highly well respected and very considerant, So Please check out the outter materials made by others have you seen his all video before you posted , or you just posted things before some revising check out his (ummah films haram police) and ( ummah films half of our deen) and you will get my point about it,
He claims that he is concerned and sad about people who mock up or embarrace other by telling them didn`t you know it was haram hey man you dont know oh !!!!
and earlier he uses the phrase “thats not hijjab ” with a big silly looking smill targeting people who aren’t aware or maybe need some time to correct their life or maybe the right decent smooth advise or maybe allah will guide them on the right time.
god save us from those kindda opposites and misleading we confront in our daily life.

I think this is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, women who wear make up or wear their hijabs in a different syle are BAD AND WRONG!!11111
I don’t wear make-up because I don’t like how it feels on my skin, however, I do wear my hijab in a way that does reveal parts of my hair, simply because in my interpretation the hijab is more a flag of pride and reminder that I am a muslim to myself than OH MY GODDDDD cover every strand of hair OR YOU’RE CONDEMNED TO HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY. I respect people who choose to go all out and people who wear no hijab at all.
But I find videos like this disgusting. Women, whatever they do, is just not good enough. If they don’t do things in a way that fits a certain groups standards they’re “listening to the devil”. This is why people in the west call out Islamic societies on being patriarchal. Heck, our own scholars call us out on being patriarchal.
It’s not Islam though, Islam has given women choices, the choice to pray, to wear the hijab, and to worship allah and live our lives the way allah wishes as we see fit. It’s people, it’s societies that constantly SHAME WOMEN, shame women no matter what they do– either women are wearing too much hijab and being prudes, or their wearing too little hijab– or if they’re wearing hijab it’s not good enough… When you make these posts please think about how you are actually putting other women down.
I was once told by this random guy that my hijab was wrong. I felt well… humiliated. I told him that men must also lower their gaze and inquired as to why he was staring at me, and he shut up. But ultimately I am not wearing it for -you-, in fact it’s -none of your business-. My religion is my business, and my hijab is also my business. Whether you are a man, woman, wear the hijab or don’t… Wallah please keep your advice and your woman-shaming to yourself.

I’ve seen this video before and liked how it represented a wide majority of women who, at least attempt, but incorrectly wear the hijab. I’m a young hijabi and some people tell my elders, “it’s a bad idea that your young daughter is already wearing it…she’ll quit when she gets older”. who says so? Islam told a girl to wear it when she turns 12 or hits puberty, and i have been since. If people do start much later, someone needs to tell them to wear it right… I do think though that someone should try to show this video in a casual Islamic Community Party…just to see HOW MANY women would straighten up their scarfs…

I agree with the cause cuz looking beautiful and hijab are two different things!!
I mean I know some people around me MashAllah who wear hijab properly and on the same hand look very elegant… so if its done for the sake of Allah… everything becomes so easy and do-able by us.
May Allah save us all from the fire of hell!!

Nice one. Reality check. I hate people who are making a mockery of hijaab.
hijaab is decency which comes from within and is potrayed through your outer presentation.
well done!

Or maybe the woman who is raised Muslim wears worse hijab because she’s not really interested, and is only doing it because she doesn’t really have a choice (speaking from experience) as opposed to the convert who has the zeal of…well, a convert.
When I was younger I hated hijab, so I would rebel against it by not wearing it properly. That might go some way in explaining the ‘new hijab’. There has been a recent islamic revival in the middle east where the secular climate of the post-colonial regimes has been supplanted with a more Islamic one. More women have started wearing the hijab so this creates a kind of chain reaction, where women will feel the pressure to cover because they will stick out if they don’t. So they cover, but it’s clear they don’t really care about being supposedly ‘modest’. (Modesty is about humility, and people can become quite proud in covering. Also, not being ashamed of the body you were given is not arrogant or immodest).

I have “resumed” wearing my hijab because I have resumed the “right” path. I am a convert and my family DOSN’T appreciate it. LOL That’s just fine, my children firmly suport me and of course my Islamic Sisters.
Anyway, thank you so much for this video, it is hillarious, bus as also mentioned it is enlighting. I know some of the younger sisters that talk of this guy, now I know why they really like him so much. He’s GREAT, and I’m not even one of the young ladies. Nearly 50, cant wait, but anyway, he’s great, I’m going to look for more of his videos, they take serious medicine and make it easier to swallow.

This brother speaks the truth and delivers it in a humorous non-offensive way. One can tell that his intentions were honorable and hopefully hijabi’s old and new alike will heed his good advice. Thank you.

As a Hindu woman my research maynot be through but I understand very well what this piece of attire symbolises. When the French President made his insensitive comment earlier this year I was more than livid. He needs to shed his I-know-it-all attitude before he opens his mouth.
This video takes it to the other extreme. It sounds almost fanatic even at the cost of making a very valid point. Modesty is dressing has been a part of every traditional culture. Even where I grew up In Kolkata, as a married woman I am expected to cover my head before elders and dress modestly. It is another thing that I don’t do it as much…flowing with the trend like everyone else. But I feel so happy to see women of the entire Muslim keeping up this beautiful tradition alive and doing it proudly.
Bravo!!!
