The New Hijab Phenomenon

with 11 comments

I remember watching the following commercial a few years ago and jumping for joy because someone out there was feeling the same way and thinking the same thoughts about the ‘New Hijab’ phenomenon.

I only found it a few days ago, thanks to Youtube and thanks to the person who added subtitled translations in English for those of you who do not understand Arabic.

  1. I saw this on TV a while ago. SoubhanAllah. And the thing is, the first girl looked so much better! These girls don’t realize just how ridiculous they look.

  6. Interesting video..
She didn’t seem more beautiful anyway after that load of make up! This eye shadows of hijabi girls kill me always!! They spend much time to put on heavy make up and wraping scarfs and shawls in strange ways.
They can use it in some useful mindful jobs i assume.

    • Unfortunately I fear that the girls wearing this type of “hijab” with all the make up, do not perform their prayers and therefore don’t do wudu either.
I too am really disappointed about the degradation of the hijab these days.
I am a revert and because my non muslim family see this new “hijab” they always ask me why i cover the way i do in my abaya, and it is difficult to explain to them why.

  10. Tell me about it! Having grown up in the most populous Muslim country in the world, I’m saddened by the waves of so-called new hijab trend. This is because it deviates from hijab’s modesty principle for the sake of fashion.
I write similarly from different angle at http://murnis.wordpress.com/2009/08/13/the-wrong-trousers-and-a-headscarf/.
