Yahoo! Avatars Finally Includes Muslim Women
Just in time for Eid, Christmas and the New Year, you can now dress up your Yahoo! Avatar with the long awaited hijab item.
Those who have been following my journey will remember my previous posts discussing my disappointment with Yahoo! Avatars not including a hijab for Muslim women donning one, though many women have requested for this much needed design.
Since I felt passionate about being included as a Muslim woman wearing a hijab, in recent weeks I wrote various e-mails to Yahoo! and articles concerning the issue. I even received a couple of replies.
But I was told by a few readers that many women had already asked Yahoo! for a hijab from two years back and failed, from two years back, i.e., so I should do the same. But sorry, it doesn’t quite work that way with me, I don’t give up.
And the result? Now you can have a Yahoo! Avatar if you choose. You can stick with WeeWorld if you want. It’s your choice. At the end of the day, it was all about having a choice and not being excluded as a Muslim woman donning the hijab.
I just hope they include colours in this hijab and perhaps create another style, since I don’t plan to wear the same tanned scarf all year round!
Congratulations !

Though i can’t help feeling a type of loyalty to WeeMe – just cos they respected the need for the hijab (and other religious wear – i think i saw a Sikh turban too), whereas Yahoo has been fobbing us off with phoney replies for years!

You go! I’d had the same problem, and even deleted my avater when I couldn’t find any hijab for it. Mashallah, on your persistence. Now just gotta figure out how to add one to my blog.

asiya mom, thanks
It’s easy, just create an avatar then when you’ve finished hit the home button and then look for the export button where it will do the rest for you

Mouse, I love your weemee at the moment, I don’t think you can do that sort of thing with Yahoo, so definitely don’t change to yahoo until they sort themselves out more
